The Freckled Portrait Project
Overview:
Some people (myself included) enjoy a long and detailed explanation of things. That all follows below. I’ve provided this overview for those who prefer things short and to the point.
Photographer: J.R. Page (Me). Based in Bothell, WA (Just north of Seattle)
Models: Volunteer female models with freckles.
Photographic portraits. Black and white. Selected images are always shared with models.
Photo sessions take place in public locations in and around the Puget Sound region, or by arrangement, in a home studio setting. All models are welcome to bring an escort to any portrait session.
To build a portfolio of powerful images for publication in a book. To present a redefinition of what constitutes beauty.
Monday evening, Saturday evening, or any time Sunday. The best results come from sessions lasting between 1 and 2 hours, but I can work with whatever time you can spare.

Models: Volunteer female models with freckles. Any amount of visible freckles works. Don’t feel like you have “not enough” or “too many”. All ages welcome and encouraged to participate!
For any model under age 18, a parent/guardian will have to counter-sign the model release and remain present for the photo session.
Photographic portraits. Primarily of the “head and shoulders” variety. These sessions are purely "trade" sessions, meaning that no money changes hands. In exchange for your valuable time, I will deliver professional images to you via email. You may use them for any non-commercial use of your choosing.
Images are captured in color and processed as black & white. Selected final images are always shared with models. Sessions of approximately 1 hour will usually result in 5 to 20 professionally edited images delivered to the model.
Where ? :
Photo sessions take place in public locations, or by agreement in a studio setting. All models are welcome to bring an escort to their portrait session. This increases the comfort level for two complete strangers meeting for the first time. I am located in Bothell, WA, and have done many portrait sessions indoors and outdoors in King County, Snohomish County, as well as out of state. I am open to other locations if it makes our collaboration possible.
Great photographs, especially portraits, speak for themselves. My goal is to create a beautiful portrait of each of my models.
The currently prevailing definition of "beauty" is very limited. It focuses increasingly upon ideals and standards that most people may never achieve. People who do not fit the "ideal" definition of what is beautiful can be made to feel marginalized and "less than" those who do.
For some reason, freckles do not fall within what modern media considers "beautiful". I have heard a large number of stories from freckled models about the negative attention they received as kids because of how different they looked.
I believe that the characteristics that make us unique or different are a major component of what makes an individual interesting and beautiful. These portraits represent my contribution to the conversation of beauty. My goal is that each model will be able to see herself in the same positive light that I see them as a photographer. If I can shift the thinking of even one person towards seeing freckles as a positive trait, then I will have already succeeded. Maybe together we can do more.
I'm available Monday evening, Saturday evening, or any time Sunday. With advance planning, I can make other days work if that would allow our collaboration. The best results come from sessions lasting between 1 and 2 hours, but I can work with whatever time you can spare.
